Fairfield County will kick off its second annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration with the 65th annual Freedom March on Sunday morning. The march is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. from the Fairfield Hilton Garden Inn to the Heritage Center on East Main Street in downtown Norwalk. It will end at approximately 11:30 a.m. Other events will be taking place on Sunday including a procession to the First Congregational United Church of Christ. […]There is a class of syndromes resulting from alterations of the brain, caused by mechanical, metabolic or other factors. Neurodegenerative diseases include those occurring in old age, and result from both non-inflammatory and inflammatory causes. There is some evidence for the importance of inflammation in this group of diseases. In contrast, diseases which arise from mechanical factors include stroke, epilepsy, brain injury and autism. Indeed, the overlap between the causes of these diseases is substantial. In this application, our studies will focus on three syndromes. The first is hereditary tremor, the second is myoclonus epilepsy-jopsital and the third is autism. In each case, we have developed animal models, in the form of lines of transgenic mice, which display the phenotype of the disease. This makes possible the construction of testable hypotheses as to the pathogenesis. The study of the second syndrome, myoclonus epilepsy-jopsital, is of interest because of the overlap between the symptoms of JE and the brain lesions which occur in MSUD.
