I'm going to bring you some photos of a couple of toys for your book and thinking but you can read this if you want to as well. A couple of toys that have in them a lot of this story of stories, and storytelling. So this is a toy that was called the Thumb Band. So the Thumb Band was an idea from the early 1900s, a company called Schoen. And the idea was, why don't we start using colors like we use it for clothing. Why don't we use colors like we use the colors of the rainbow for clothing because it's so much more efficient. Why don't we do the same thing for toys? The idea behind it was that this would be one of the first toys that could be changed every day, because it was very hard to do today. And so the idea is that you have these bands, and the band is made out of this material, and then you just put little colored buttons on, and you can pull the buttons off, and you can use them again and again. And they're made of a material that's kind of like paper, so you can see through them, and then you put them on the wrist of the baby and every day you change the color. And they were very successful, and they sold a lot of them, but they didn't last very long, because over time they saw that not only did babies want them to be worn on their wrists, but toddlers, and young children, and adults wanted to wear these wristbands around their arms and so the band was just too short. And so they made them longer. And then they made them more flexible. And so you can see in the photo they changed a lot. And then eventually they realized that they didn't need to put buttons on these things anymore. They could work with their new materials, they could make them out of plastic and the wristbands could be even longer, and so the idea was to use stories to change something and that idea is part of the book as well and using stories as well as using bold colors and shapes and bold graphic design is used to change something, just like stories are used to change something. And so it's a great book, Design Is All About Stories, and I'm really looking forward to having a conversation with you.
