Pleasant with a low-key storyline and fairly well-written characters, The Blue Umbrella works reasonably well for the story it tells. It moves along at a fair pace, while the characters are well-defined and their gradual development keeps the viewer interested till the end.
This may be called a realistic movie, but the film also kept me with its less-preachy manner which is not that common. For an accurate portrayal of real-life values, this movie can definitely be called real. It also has a touch of tribute to my great heroes, from India and around the world. I found the story more influential to show the situation of small villages which most films don't talk, but this one did.
The film starts with a romantic story of a Nepali boy, trying to fulfill his wish to marry an Indian girl. And when it comes to Biniya, this boy becomes interested in her career-oriented life and finds her humble home and people fascinating; he wants to be in Biniya's life.
However, when he comes to know that Biniya is actually not interested in this boy, he turns bitter, tries to buy a Japanese umbrella from her, and ends up making fun of her for wanting to look like a star. For this, people in Biniya's place sentence this boy to be worldly-wise for being sensible.
This begins a series of strange events and activities taking place in Biniya's life. And by now, everyone including her wants to search for the Blue Umbrella. Through these events, scenes and activities, Biniya finds herself changing from a girl who is just trying to feed her family into a girl who has to find the Blue Umbrella. d2c66b5586
